Abstract
A novel high-gain and circularly polarized resonant cavity antenna using a frequency selective surface (FSS) superstrate is presented. The proposed FSS superstrate is formed by two sets of periodic metallic structures on the opposite sides of the dielectric substrate layer. By properly designing the two FSS periodic structures, the unit cell thus obtained can convert a linearly polarized incident wave into a CP one along with a satisfactory broadside gain. For verification, a 10-GHz prototype antenna is designed, fabricated, and tested.
