Abstract
We discuss dynamic binary transmit power control strategies for a mobile data user, taking into consideration channel dynamics, residual battery energy and communication delay constraints. We define a utility function for the mobile that takes into account communication throughput, energy consumption as well as delay. A dynamic programming algorithm is employed to maximize the user´s utility, by which we obtain optimal transmission policies for different scenarios. The resulting transmitter power policies can be implemented using signal strength measurements and knowledge of residual battery energy
