Abstract
Indoor object tracking based on RFID is becoming increasingly prevalent. RFID is very attractive because of reasonable cost and its reliability. This paper presents a cell planning method for indoor object tracking using RFID systems. While previous studies focus on localization method, we focus on the deployment of RFID systems in terms of deployment cost, tracking coverage and accuracy. In this paper, we call such approach ldquocell planningrdquo and propose mathematical models to tackle cell planning problem. We give four formulations which capture different criteria based on given settings. In order to evaluate the quality of the proposed models, we obtain their near-optimal solutions using well-known heuristics and investigate the result of tracking simulation with obtained solutions.
