Abstract
Video game providers release a game either in online, offline or both versions with online release allowing players to cooperate and/or compete with real persons and bringing them utility of being related to others. We drew insights from Self-Determination Theory and derived three important factors to analyze players´ adoption of different versions of video games. We then build a two-dimensional Hoteling model to study the product differentiation and optimal pricing strategies for game releases.
