Abstract :
The realization of distributed geographic information access is only the first step to construct "Digital Province" and "Digital City". Only the shared geographic information is represented properly, it can be understood and used widely. In this paper, taking into account the practical demand of distributed geographic information sharing in the construction of "Digital Province", we put forward the distributed geographic information representation theory and technology that is based on the symbol library, template library and knowledge library. In the realization technology system, the core technology is the XML-based geographic information representation technology. Hence, we also introduce the XML-based geographic information representation principle in detail. The implementation technology of Web-based symbol library is also introduced. In the end, we introduce the application of our theory in the construction of "Digital Province" of China, which has validated the feasibility of our research
