Abstract :
The statistical characteristics of rain attenuation in equatorial zone is investigated first. Then in comparison with Loo´s (see Proceedings of the IEEE, vol.86, no.7, p.1442-63, 1998) Ka-band weather land mobile satellite (LMS) channel model, a more reasonable LMS channel model incorporated with weather impairments is proposed based on Lutz´s (1991) LMS channel model. The PDF of the received signal and BER performance with Loo´s and our Ka-band weather LMS channel model is quantified and compared, the effect of weather impairments and rain attenuation on BER performance is also evaluated
