Abstract :
In this paper, the capability of a vacuum switch with CuCr contacts concerning transient current interruption, during the switching of a capacitor bank is presented. The reignition voltages of the contact gap and number of half-cycles of transient current flowing through the vacuum switch depend on the parameters making and breaking currents, kinds of switching operation preceding the first restrike, frequency and amplitudes of transient current, contact gap length and parameters of recovery voltage.
