Abstract :
This paper presents an approach to evaluate the traffic behavior of code division multiple access (CDMA) employing power control and smart antennas. Firstly, it is pointed out that the outage probability is related to the power feasibility problem. Then, a “network-oriented” method is suggested for analyzing the system capacity from the viewpoint of network. Later, a Gaussian approximation that considers the application of antenna arrays is described for calculating the Erlang capacity. The results show that the use of antenna arrays increases the traffic capacity significantly
