Abstract :
It is of crucial importance for any construction company to be able to deal successfully with various bidding situations. This paper offers a multi-criterion evaluation approach for contractors to selecting which contracts to bid for. As is generally accepted, bidding decisions can be divided into two consequent stages as bid/no bid and mark-up decisions, and the paper is of no exception. In bid/no bid analysis, a set of criterion is established considering the short-term and long-term effects brought by the project. The criteria include expected profit, productivity enhancement and long-time growth, which are further divided respectively. A fuzzy set approach is adopted to deal with imprecision or vagueness. Through a case study, the approach proves to be practical and can serve as a basis for determination of appropriate mark-up level.
