Abstract :
We report on a cw diode-pumped Tm laser, with wide tunability around 1.93 μm, based on a novel Tm-doped LiLuF4 active crystal (Tm:LiLuF). Remarkable features of LiLuF are low phonon energy, which makes it suitable for IR transitions, reduced thermal lensing and birefringence, and low up-conversion losses, which results in efficient laser action. Maximum output power in excess of 1 W and wavelength tunability range of ˜210 nm were demonstrated.
