Abstract :
The authors show the results of the first attempt to map vector ocean surface currents using dual over-the-horizon radars. The test used the US Navy ROTHR radars in Virginia and Texas to illuminate, via ionospheric reflection, two 70000 km2 areas in the Florida Straits, approximately 1500 km from the radars. Each radar maps radial currents, which are interpolated to a common grid and combined into vector currents. Details of the Florida current and ancillary flows are seen with 10-15-km resolution
