Abstract :
Carrier requirements for flexible, programmable optical transport networks have pushed the development, of novel component technologies that offer a new level of flexibility in the optical layer enabling a richer set of service features while improving the efficiency, performance and robustness of the transport layer. We discuss these carrier requirements in the context of emerging components and sub-systems as well as the resultant performance improvements they offer the optical transport layer.
