Abstract
Two compact 60GHz on-chip multi-antenna systems, each composed of an inverted-L antenna pair and a PIFA pair in a 1mm × 1mm area, are implemented in CMOS 0.13 process. A novel coupling reduction technique is applied to the antennas of one of the chips resulting in isolation enhancements ranging from 8dB to 27dB in the 60GHz band in comparison with the benchmark antenna pairs on the other chip. To ensure repeatable and reliable measurements, a particular metal post fixture is designed to measure the radiation pattern of the PIFAs on the antenna plane.
