Abstract :
Recently low-cost optical links for home and car networks have been extensively developed under the continuous need for expanding transmission capability. Popular low-cost optical links based on red-LEDs and 0.85-μm VCSELs mainly handle bit rates below 1 Gbit/s. In this paper, we demonstrate 6 Gbit/s optical data transmission under a wide temperature range from -40 to 115°C, using low-cost plastic-mold Transmitter (Tx) and Receiver (Rx) leadframe modules. The high transmission rate can handle high-definition television signals, and the expanded operating temperature range is applicable even for roof modules in automotive applications.
