Abstract :
A new dielectric resonator (DR) consisting of two orthogonal hollow dielectric cylinders, is presented. The structure supports a pair of degenerate modes each having a field pattern very similar to the TE01δ supported by a cylindrical DR. Measurement of the unloaded Q-value indicates a performance similar to that of single cylindrical DR, with a ratio of spurious to fundamental resonance of 1.24. This resonator differs from previously reported dual-mode resonators in that it resonates in the fundamental mode. It is thus ideal for miniaturisation of low loss microwave filters.
