Abstract
In heterogeneous wireless networking environment vertical handover is needed for supporting mobility. It is challenging to provide seamless handover in this environment. Handover performance in terms of handover delay and packet loss is affected during handover. This paper proposes an idea of incorporating the proxy mobile IPV6 (PMIPV6), handover coordinator (HC) and media independent handover (MIH) services. Here the handover coordinator controls and coordinates the overall process and the proxy mobile IPV6, the network based mobility management protocol enhanced with media independent handover services improves the handover performance even better than using PMIPV6 alone. The handover delay, packet loss and signaling overhead are reduced further than the previous systems.
