Abstract :
The theory of single bunch beam breakup with BNS damping for a coasting beam is reviewed. The implications of autophasing are discussed. A reliable way to estimate the growth due to beam breakup with linear variation of the transverse force in terms of two universal parameters is outlined. A comparison with simulations is included.<>
