  • Abstract
Power quality standards (IEEE-519) compel to limit the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) within acceptable range caused by rapid usage of power electronic equipment. Conventional approaches for harmonic filtering usually employ either passive or active filtering techniques or a combination of both. This paper explains the Hybrid Power Filter (HPF) for harmonic mitigation and power factor improvement in a nonlinear rectifier system. A single tuned passive filter is designed to mitigate the dominating third order harmonic frequency. Along with passive filter, Active Power Filter (APF) is implemented to improve the harmonic filtering performance. The control scheme of the APF is based on feedback and feedforward techniques. The proposed system is simulated for different firing angles and has been simulated using MATLAB-Simulink.
