Abstract :
In this paper a novel structure is shown whereby a dielectric resonator can be modified in order to act both as a power combiner and as an antenna. A typical NRD waveguide supports only hybrid modes which have longitudinal electric or magnetic field components along the propagating direction z. These modes can be categorised as longitudinal electric modes (LSE modes) and longitudinal section magnetic modes (LSM modes) in this paper we exploit the LSE10, mode which has the most intense electric field at the centre of the dielectric material and can be excited by inserting short dipoles into the dielectric material. We show that by careful positioning of the dipoles inserted into the resonator and their subsequent connection to voltage controlled oscillators single mode operation and hence efficient microwave power combining and simultaneous antenna action can be realized. The structure exhibits low cross-polarisation levels due to the x-direction cut-off properties of the structure.
