Data Processing and Application of Digital Ocean

As a macro complex systematic engineering, the Digital Ocean project is an ongoing task in china. The mission of the Digital Ocean is to build an interactive network information system based on a three-dimensional globe. The Digital Ocean can help provide integrated information on historical, current and future states of ocean and coastal zone. This paper addresses the architecture of Digital Ocean, and a detailed description about information needs of the Digital Ocean. Based on the analysis of the information needs, the data processing chain and methods of the Digital Ocean are brought forward. Then it proposes a service-oriented architecture of data processing system to support web service-based model integration of the spatial analysis models and the oceanic applied models, which permits extensibility and interoperability independent of the technology. And the application of the early prototype is introduced.
