Abstract :
The paper presents a method for determining in underground distribution cable systems both phase sequence and absolute phase with respect to a standard which is broadcast over the power company´s cellular-telephone network. The method solves the problem of access to the cable center conductor by using a tool developed by the authors for nondestructive cable status testing. The paper presents some applications in distribution system maintenance and expansion. Limits to the accuracy of absolute phase measurement are discussed
