Abstract :
The increasing need of intelligent control modules for the development of productivity , quality control , energy saving and economic improvement with requirement of high speed of operation in industries have necessitated the development of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based controllers. The high performance Digital drives requires fast computational time, efficient realization of many mathematical models and cost effective design approach. Complex industrial control application can be found in the flying shear control. In this paper, the speed and position control strategies to be followed in order to automate the flying shear control to save energy and minimize the scrap due to cutting operation in continuous rolling mill is discussed. The existing high cost controllers can be replaced by high performance FPGA based controllers which are comparatively cheaper.
