Abstract
The discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method was used to develop a frequency domain finite element method solver for electromagnetic simulations that supports arbitrary polyhedral mesh elements. Since the DG method allows an arbitrary basis within each mesh element, this method also supports arbitrary polynomial order basis. An attractive feature of this solver is its ability to model thin layers without using tetrahedra with a poor aspect ratio, as well as its ability to model FSS layers (e.g. hexagonal grids) with a minimal number of mesh elements.
