Abstract
This paper proposes a method of intelligent network (IN) service design based on message sequence charts (MSC). First, in order to describe all kinds of conditions of messages of one entity, it presents a formal representation which extends the standard MSC. Corresponding to the representation, a message tree structure is also described. According to the operating flow and the requirements analysis of an IN service, we design the MSC-S (MSC for external behavior of an IN service). Then, we separate the telecommunication network into several functional entities (FEs) and produce the MSC for the IFs between the SCF and other FEs. The IN service logic is designed on the basis of the MSC
