Abstract
Feedback PID and deadtime controller structures and tuning strategies are compared for processes containing deadtime and subjected to unmeasured loads. A fourth tuning parameter is shown to provide good setpoint response when a PID loop is tuned to reject load upsets. An algebraic tuning method is shown to be effective when the process is characterized by an autoregressive Taylor series in the differential operator
