Abstract :
LaGuardia Youth Center for Engineering Excellence (LYCEE) is established in order to address a problem of growing demand for STEM professionals in the U.S. and the issue of underrepresentation of minorities in STEM pathways. The Center´s activities, including innovative hands-on engineering projects and STEM-related tutoring, are designed to promote high school students interest in choosing STEM-related majors in college and exploring STEM career possibilities in the future. During its first three years of existence, the Center has successfully served 9-12 grade students from twelve high schools in Queens. As the need for LYCEE programs arises, the Center comes forward with new initiatives to incorporate in its practices hybrid models including face-to-face and online learning modes with some unique features.
