Abstract :
As the terrestrial mobile networks are moving towards third generation (3G) systems with the capability of delivering IP (Internet protocol) based multimedia services. Any satellite system that is designed to offer complementary coverage terrestrial 3G systems is expected to offer similar services and Quality of Service (QoS). A satellite system faces a number unique issues as compared to a terrestrial system. The solutions found for terrestrial systems may not necessary be applicable to a satellite system. This paper addresses the issues and challenges of designing a satellite system offering a good QoS.
