Abstract
The paper first provides a tutorial overview of a higher chip rate TDD mode that is being studied by 3GPP for the evolution of UTRA TDD mode. This provides the basis from which an evolution to even higher chip rates is made. Simulations show that packet call rate gains of 30-40% are achievable by adoption of a chip rate of 7.68 Mcps.
