Abstract
This paper deals with the nonlinear modeling and control of a turbocharged spark ignition (SI) engine. In automotive industry, downsizing based turbocharging is considered as a powerful technique to improve engine performances such as fuel economy and pumping loss reduction to increase engine efficiency or to optimize the drivability. This method is widely used for diesel engine. For gasoline engines, it is more complex in terms of control. In this work, a simplified control oriented model is presented. Then, to achieve the control objectives, a decentralized control strategy based on linear and nonlinear fuzzy controllers is developed and experimentally applied on a Smart MCC (Micro Compact Car) three cylinders engine test bench.
