Abstract :
Read range and sensitivity are two important factors that determine the performance of a wireless sensor. In this paper, various passive RFID temperature sensor designs that integrate a water pocket into the antenna substrate as a sensing unit are investigated. For different water pockets used in sensor configurations, a common tradeoff between read range and sensitivity is observed. As a compromise, a configuration with approximately 6m read range at 20°C and sensitivity of 4MHz/10°C is successfully designed.
