  • Abstract
    This paper presents a novel shorted planar monopole broadband antenna. In the light of the planar structure easily conformal to the substrate, the shorting structure and the technique of load-adding, this kind of antenna realizes the miniaturization and has a better bandwidth and radiation compared with the conventional planar monopole antenna. The theoretical parametric analysis of the main structure and simulation results with HFSS show that the antenna meets the conditions of VSWR less than 3, vertical polarization, horizontal omni-directional radiation, radiation gain no less than -20 dB and radiation smoothness below 3 dB, on the work frequency band ranging from 20 MHz to 88 MHz. The antenna has a wide application in the UHF communication system. The calculational results derived accord well with the experimental results.
