Abstract :
The design and construction of a submillimetre wave phase-locked backward-wave oscillator source and its application for extending the dynamic range of a vector network analyzer are presented. Measured dynamic range improvement with this new source system over a frequency-multiplied Gunn oscillator varies between 16-20 dB over the frequency range of 300-400 GHz. Estimated improvement based on the power level difference at 700 GHz is about 40 dB.
