Abstract :
In this paper we present a microwave filter theory treatment for the problem of electromagnetic wave tunneling through a multi-layer structure composed of stacked ∈-negative (ENG) and μ-negative (MNG) metamaterial layers. We demonstrate that a structure composed of N ENG layers separated from each other by N - 1 MNG layers acts as an Nth-order coupled-resonator bandpass filter with capacitive coupling between successive resonators. We present an analytical procedure for synthesizing these mutli-layer structures and demonstrate the validity of this analytical method and the equivalency using full-wave EM simulations.
