  • Abstract
    Two types of on-package antennas, including a loop and a slot design, are proposed. The on-package loop antenna can induce the self resonance of the carrier board to increase the radiation efficiency since the carrier board would become a dipole-like radiator. Contrarily, the on-package slot antenna has a much lower efficiency because it cannot excite the resonance of the carrier board. The coupling mechanism to excite the self resonance of the carrier board is discussed based on the current distributions, and it may be a feasible solution to enhance the radiation performance of any other on-package antennas.
