Abstract
This study draws from resource based view (RBV) other than upper echelon perspective used in previous research to investigate how and when senior managers´ political connections affect company´s diversification strategy. Data from a sample of 1280 firms from year 2002 to 2005 highlight a strong positive relationship between political connections and company diversification. The data also suggest that this relationship is contingent on the regional institutional characteristics and company ownership structure.
