  • Abstract
The spatial distribution of commercial service has significant importance for land management and urban planning. This paper attempts to discuss the spatial pattern of the commercial service at a general/city scale based on the voronoi model which is a powerful tool for the proximity analysis in GIS. Firstly, the commercial parcels are assigned to particles enduring their commercial function so as to divide the city zone into pieces as their service areas. Then the research is advance in two folds. On the one hand, the spatial connection relationship of the commercial service particles is illustrated by the allelomorphic net derived from the voronoi diagram. On the other hand, the commercial dominance index and the commercial balance index are designed to investigate the commercial service capability of the corresponding commercial parcels. We apply the analysis on a case study of Jingzhou city, China. The results indicate that the spatial distribution of the commercial service is in a pattern of "Corridor", while in the urban planning it is more concentrated in the pattern of "Patch-Corridor".
