Abstract
In this paper we are concerned with inter-agent communication processes to support intelligent collaborative reasoning mechanisms, which are necessary for the implementation of computer supported concurrent engineering systems. Following a brief overview of the research efforts in inter-agent communication, this paper describes briefly the VirtualTeam system´s architecture. A design example is used to illustrate the implementation of the speech-act based communication mechanisms
