Abstract
A novel method is presented for propagating uncertainty that also calculates measures of contradictions in the input data. This method can improve the performance of a reason maintenance system by ranking the contradictions and resolving the most severe of these first. An example shows the application of this technique to fault diagnosis in a communication system
