Abstract :
We consider network engineering aspects of a new CDMA cellular standard designed for data traffic only - IS-856, also known as 1xEV-DO. We give an overview of the 1xEV-DO standard, and its efficiencies relative to 1xRTT networks. We also highlight one of the main choices in the design of 1xEV-DO networks - distributed versus centralized architecture.
