Abstract
This paper describes the initial experiences of CLP in the development of an intelligent alarm processor integrating with the existing real-time energy management system (EMS). The system adopts a commercially available knowledge-based software package which runs on a personal computer platform. Ease of implementation, minimum interference to real-time system and low cost are the characteristics of the system. Special consideration has been given to minimizing the maintenance burden on the power system topology. The system adopts a hypothesis-based approach in modeling the dispatcher´s interpretation process during power system disturbance. Initial testing of the system produces satisfactory results. The system will be put into real-time operation after some further enhancements
