  • Abstract
Turbo codes have been investigated for magnetic recording channels as potential candidates to succeed the current Viterbi-based partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) approaches. In contrast, relatively less attention has been devoted to the investigation of turbo decoding methods for optical data storage channels. In this paper, we present the simulation results of applying turbo decoding to an optical data storage channel. Our results focus on a variety of practical optical storage channel aspects including storage density, partial response targets, and the type of precoder used
