Abstract
A technique for producing high equivalent peak powers using a lower bandwidth filter is presented. It is shown that the power scaling factor is related to the ratio of stored energies of the two filters. The stored energy distribution in the filter of interest is deduced from a knowledge of the filter prototype using the nodal analysis technique. By calculating the electric field and time average stored energy of an intrinsic (reference) filter cavity, using a commercial EM solver, it is then possible to determine the electric field in the filter of interest for any given input power. These parameters may then be used to design a test filter of lower bandwidth having the same internal maximum electric field, but using a lower input peak power level. This technique has been used successfully to test filters for CDMA applications.
