Abstract
Surface cavities support bound modes which originates from surface waves, localized around a point defect. These open structures confine the electromagnetic field without requiring any dielectric. This property is attracting for applications involving plasmas or electron beams. Furthermore, the interaction with point sources or active materials such as nano-crystals or large molecules is greatly enhanced thanks both to localization and resonance. Surface plasmons are a convenient and straightforward way to achieve localization, but the spectral range is limited to visible and near infrared. We propose design which is instead working on perfect-electric-conductors (PECs) and is thus scalable in a very broad spectral range.
