Abstract
While starting from a rather homogeneous Layer-2 hardware base, the OFELIA project (http://www.fp7-ofelia.eu) reaches out lower to integrate optical (i.e., circuit switching) and wireless networks into the OpenFlow control framework. To do so, description languages are needed that identify port and switch capabilities and cross-layer optimization techniques may lead to unified control plane of optical (circuit switched) and packet switched networks. Unified control plane based on OpenFlow concept is an interesting and challenging goal to achieve. Further on, multi-domain extensions to OpenFlow are to be investigated for large scale experiments. By breaking the vertical integration of networking gear OpenFlow allows application-specific monitoring, routing, and processing in the network rather than in the edges. Innovative ideas and applications based on OpenFlow paradigm will be presented in this workshop
