  • Abstract
    Optical virtual private network (OVPN) is now emerging as the next step in the evolution of VPNs. It appears as a real private optical network to the customers that uses the optical links of the service providers. Reliability and continuity of service are the major concerns in the design of OVPN. In this paper, we propose a highly simple approach for distributing the load over the optical network using shortest pair algorithm that can mitigate the impact of link failures in an optical VPN. The special feature of our load distributive shortest pair algorithm lies in its simplicity and less computation for the working path as well as for the backup path.
