Abstract :
In order to realize next-generation optical disc systems, it is extremely important to conduct comprehensive research and development. The scope of the research needs to be extended not only to the high-density digital video disc recorder using a blue-laser diode, but also using basic recording and reproducing technology, disc format, cost reduction technology, and various applications. It is particularly necessary to provide new applications to achieve a widespread use of the optical disc system in the future. In this paper, a partial-ROM system, by which the user-data capacity is not consumed or used at all, is proposed as a new application for the high-density digital video disc recorder.
