Abstract
The Belgian Gendarmerie has recently installed its nationwide private PABX network, based on 60 PABX, which are currently being linked by (also private) 2 Mbit links. This network covers all the telecommunication needs between fixed points for voice as well as for data, text and document transmission. After a description of the network and its multiple functions, attention is paid to the special functionalities of the voice and data networks, as well as of the network management system, which is being studied. This will show that the digital PABX is in fact a powerful communications computer offering a lot of flexibility and can run very specific tasks in order to meet the particular needs of any organization
