Abstract
The paper presents a theoretical approach of the long-range interaction between an atomic system in an arbitrary quantum level and dispersive dielectric surface in thermal equilibrium at temperature T(Gorza et. al, 2006) This theoretical study is performed within the frame work of the quantum-mechanical linear response - using generalised susceptibilities for both atom and e.m. field -and allows one to derive a general expression for the atomic energy shift in front of any material surfaces.
