Abstract :
An integrated circuit laser controller circuit, Laconic, in standard CMOS technology is presented that is flexible for optical recording formats such as CD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and DVR/BRD at all speeds. It supports both CAV and CLV writing modes and features a new laser power control method with self-learning possibilities for accurate one-parameter power control. This IC also supports optimum power control (OPC) and Running-OPC control independent of LPC.
