Abstract
We study experimentally and numerically the electromagnetic resonances in split ring resonators S(SRRs), around 1GHz. For an individual anisotropic SRR, we show that both electric and magnetic fields can induce resonances, the magnetic one being the strongest. This behaviour leads to an anisotropic response of the SRR, which depends on the illumination direction. The coupling between two or more SRRs can be quite complex and strongly depends on their geometrical arrangement. Finally we propose and study an alternative magnetic resonant structure with a higher degree of isotropy.
